Preparation
- Each seller is assigned an identification code which must appear on all items. You will need to know your code in order to prepare your items for drop-off.
Previous sellers: If you are on our mailing list and received a postcard notifying you of an upcoming sale, your code appears beside your name on the address label.
New sellers: You will need to obtain a code. To do so, contact Olivia at dcce@nc.rr.com or 919-698-8961, or stop by the sale location on one of the accepting days.
-
You will need various supplies to prepare your items for drop-off, including:
- Sturdy, adult-size wire coathangers.
- Safety pins large enough to pin through waistbands and around the coathanger wire.
- For toys with small parts: Clear plastic bags and heavy, clear plastic tape for sealing the bags.
- Masking tape.
- Price tags (See #3 below).
- Your own tagging gun. Or you may buy a tachit needle for $5 and use a tagging gun belonging to DCCE during business hours.
- You will need to obtain tags from DCCE, on which you will write your code, size or description of item, and selling price.
You can wait and get your tags when you drop off your items at the sale location; however, many sellers find it easier to stop by the sale location on one of the first accepting days to pick up a supply of tags.
If you get your tags ahead of time, you can have them already filled out when you come to drop off your items. Doing so will save you time at drop-off.
BEGINNING THIS SALE, ALL PARTICIPANTS MUST TAG THEIR OWN ITEMS.
Note: You can save even more time at drop-off by affixing the tags to your own items ahead of time. We now have tagging guns available at cost. Call us at 919-698-8961 if you'd like to purchase one.
Or you may purchase a tachit gun needle for $5 and use a DCCE tagging gun during business hours. See schedule for hours of operation.

This picture shows some of the supplies used to prepare items for sale.
Tags are color-coded to indicate what you want DCCE to do with any of your items that do not sell at your stated selling price.
Be sure to get the appropriate color tags:
- White tags: Will go reduced-price and will be donated to charity if still unsold.
- Yellow tags: Will go reduced-price but will not be donated.
- Pink tags: Will not go reduced-price and will not be donated.
Note: There is a $2.00 processing fee for sellers who choose not to donate their leftover items to charity.

Instructions for clothes
- Wash all items and iron, as needed. Stained, torn, pilled, or tired clothing will not be accepted.
- Onesies and infant sleepers should be grouped together and bagged. Minimum 4 per bag.
- All other garments must be presented on wire hangers. Use sturdy, adult-size hangers. Please do not bend hangers!
- With the front of the garment facing you, the hanger hook should point to the left.
- Hang shirts, sweaters, and dresses on wire hangers (do not use pins).

- Each piece of clothing (multiple articles on a single hanger are considered one item) must be TAGGED using tagging gun (purchased or rented during business hours).
- Secure the waists of pants and skirts to the top part of the hanger with two safety pins. Pin through the waist completely.

- 8. NOTE tag attached under waistband on right – away from the direction the hanger is “pointing.”
- If clothing is sold as a set: Put the shirt or other top on the hanger first. Then pin skirt or other bottom onto the exposed top of hanger without pinning through the shirt or other top. This method allows both items to be inspected completely and reduces the number of pinholes put into your garments.

Note: Examples of correct hanging/pinning are available at the sale location.
- Place a strip of masking tape (and only masking tape) on the upper right hand part of each item. On the masking tape, write your code, garment size, and desired asking price.
- Refer to photos as to where tags are attached with tagging gun: On the right side facing you and under waistbands of skirts, pants, shorts and inside seams of shirts, jackets, etc.
- Note: Sizes must be indicated by a single number (e.g., 6 mos, 4T, 10, etc.).

If the garment does not have a tag indicating the size, or if the tag says only "small," "medium," "large," etc., then write "Fits [size]" on the masking tape, where [size] is the appropriate number. For example, "Fits 2T," "Fits 6 mos," etc.

Do not use "small," "medium," or "large." Items sized with small/medium/large instead of a number may be placed in the "reject box."
Note: Prices must be in whole dollars.
Minimum price is $2.00.

Instructions for toys

Note tag is attached with short barb using tagging gun, but an alternative is to use a small strip of MASKING TAPE across the very tip top of the tag and the very lower bottom of the tag so as not to cover any writing on the tag

- Check the recall list at the Consumer Products Safety Commission to be sure the toys you want to sell have not been recalled.
- Only complete sets are accepted. Working batteries must be included as needed.
- Toys with pieces must be self-contained in a box, ziplock bag, or other large clear plastic bag. Tape the box or bag closed with heavy, clear plastic tape to reduce the risk of tampering or loss of contents. Do not use staples.
- Write your code, a brief description of the item, and the desired asking price on a piece of masking tape and affix the masking tape directly to the item (not to the plastic bag).

This picture illustrates two alternatives for attaching tags to
non-clothing items. In one the fastener is looped around an element of the
item (the handle of the mug), the tag is put on the fastener then the
fastener is clipped closed. In the other the tag is taped to the item with
small strips of MASKING TAPE placed across the very tip top and the very
bottom edge of the tag.
- Affix tag with MASKING TAPE a little strip just across the very top and very bottom of the tag or small fastener using tagging gun.
Note: Prices must be in whole dollars.
Minimum price is $2.00.

Drop-off procedure
- Count the total number of items you are bringing to the sale.
- Separate the clothing by gender and arrange each group in ascending size order. If the gender is not obvious, please write "B" (for boy) or "G" (for girl) on the masking tape.
- If you acquired your tags in advance: Complete a tag for each item you are selling. Tags should include the same information you wrote on the masking tape for each item: code, size and/or description, and price.

See tag examples
If you are using more than one color tag, specify the appropriate tag color on the masking tape affixed to each item. (If we can't tell what tag goes on what item, we will assume a white tag for the item in question.)
Place tags for shoes, toys, equipment, and large items behind the clothing tags. Secure your tags with a rubber band.
Note: You can save time at drop-off by affixing the tags to your own items ahead of time. We now have tagging guns available at cost. Call us at 919-698-8961 if you'd like to purchase one.
- Prepare a self-addressed stamped envelope for DCCE to mail your check to you. Include your code beside your name.

Note: There is a $1.00 processing fee for those who do not provide us with a self-addressed stamped envelope.
- Bring your tagged items and self-addressed stamped envelope to the sale location on a designated accepting day. (See days for accepting clothes.)
Allow at least 30 minutes for the check-in procedure; more if you have a lot of items or if we are busy.
- At check-in:
- Tell us the number of items you have brought for the sale.
- Confirm your address, telephone number, and code in the code book.
- Tell us whether you want any items that do not sell at your full asking price to be sold at the reduced-price day(s), and whether you wish to donate unsold items to charity.
Make sure your choice has been recorded in the code book. If you do not indicate your choice, your items will be put into the "reduced price and donate" category.
If you picked up your tags ahead of time, be sure you used the correct color tags, based on your reduced-price/donate choice.
If you did not pick up your tags ahead of time: Obtain the correct color tags and fill out one tag for each item. Include your code, size or description of the item, and desired asking price on the tag.

See tag examples
Using your own tagging gun or one of ours ($5 to buy your own needle), affix tags to all merchandise.
If you are using more than one color tag, specify the appropriate tag color on the masking tape affixed to each item. (If your tag falls off and we can't tell what color tag you intended to go on that item, we will assume a white tag for the item in question.)
- Place your clothing on the appropriate size and gender clothing racks and your other items where instructed.
Note: DCCE is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
